The Strength of the Relationship between the Family Medicine Program Director and Program Coordinator and the Impact on Residents' Well-Being
Yesenia Ruiz
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Converse University
The Program Director and Program Coordinator of medical residency programs are vital in developing future physicians around the United States. The relationship between these leaders could alleviate burnout in healthcare by providing stability and a united front that could help residents feel safe to perform and excel. As the program's leaders, the director and coordinator lead the organizational culture and directly affect how the culture is developed and maintained throughout the program. With strong leadership, the residents may flourish during training or develop healthy wellness practices when transitioning to independent practice. Creating healthy habits ensures that residents, physicians, and--later--attending physicians remain practicing medicine and oversee the population's healthcare.
