The Relationship between School Culture and Professional Quality of Life
Brandon McFerren
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
This non-experimental, mixed methods study examined the relationships between school culture dimensions, compassion fatigue, and compassion satisfaction within Tennessee K-12 public schools. The research identified if differences existed in perceived school culture dimensions and professional quality of life between teachers and administrators. Fifty-two Likert scale questions and eight open-ended questions were distributed online via electronic survey through the social media platforms Facebook and X. Forty-four participants completed the surveys. The data were analyzed using factorial MANOVAs, Pearson r, and chi square tests. There were significant relationships between the School Culture Triage (Wagner, 2006) and ProQol (Stamm, 2010) factors. Quality relationships with coworkers and teacher self-efficacy are related to positive feelings for helping others lower mental fatigue and intent to stay.
