Creating Structured Teacher-Driven PLCs to Increase Reading Proficiency at an Urban High School
Bethany I. McCabe
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
This dissertation examines the connection between the English Language Arts Professional Learning Community, data analysis, and research-based instructional strategies to improve students reading levels, as measured by the Pennsylvania Literature Keystone Exam at an Urban High School. It is a mixed-method study. Data were collected from 9th -12th grade English Language Arts teachers with an "End of Year" PLC survey, English Language Arts teacher interviews, and a review of the 2023 Pennsylvania Literature Keystones exam results. Results demonstrated that focused professional learning community activities and regular data examinations may lead to an increase the reading proficiency scores.
