This interpretative phenomenological study investigated the perception of lecturers on factors affecting their morale in a higher educational institution in Jamaica. Qualitative data was collected from 16 participants using semi-structured interviews, focus group and critical reflection. The data was analyzed using a thematic approach. The findings revealed teachers' feeling of ambivalence about their job, poor institutional culture, authoritarian leadership style and the impact of COVID-19 pandemic were central to low teacher morale at the higher educational institution. However, despite experiencing low morale, lecturers were motivated by their love for the profession and the support received from colleagues. The findings also suggested if teacher morale and motivation were not improved, the institution would experience the exodus of teachers. The recommendation which was made to improve teacher morale and motivation was to increase training activities and team-building exercises.
