The Effectiveness of Dyad Modeling within Teacher Development, Leader-Teacher-Student Relationships, and Student Achievement: A Mixed Methods Study
Joshua Juan Medrano
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Irvine
Education leadership models must stay current to facilitate teacher professional development. The way in which K-12 education is delivered and how teachers approach instruction must evolve to meet the changing needs of students. Referencing the Leader-Member-Exchange Theory framework, the researcher conducted a mixed-methods study that implemented a healthcare leadership approach, known as the dyad model, in a K-12 private educational institution. The aim of the study was to identify the effectiveness a dyad model would have on teacher development, leader-teacher-student relationships, and academic achievement. The study was conducted at a private institution during the 2022-2023 academic school year. Post-study, 31 participants completed a quantitative Likert survey and answered four qualitative open-ended response questions. The findings imply that a dyad model does, in fact, effectively impact teacher development and foster outcomes such as trust, collaboration, communication, and student achievement. Future research is needed to determine if larger school settings or districts will have similar outcomes. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
