Sarah Klocke
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, College of Saint Mary
Individuals with a growth mindset believe they have the ability to learn (Dweck, 2006). The purpose of this qualitative phenomenological study was to understand the shared lived experiences connected to growth mindset, self-efficacy, and grit in a population of undergraduate students at a private women's university in the Midwest who participate in the fine and performing arts. Hermeneutic phenomenology analysis was used for this study. Data collected highlighted the importance of practice and beginning participation in the fine and performing arts at a young age as impactful to future participation. Results of the study showed that the fine and performing arts can nurture a growth mindset, self-efficacy, and grit.
