ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
The modern-day learning environment in higher education is highly associated with the online learning method, which consists of both hybrid and 100% online learning. Many universities have opted to provide various degrees and certifications remotely from their brick and mortar locations. As a result, individuals who felt that it was impossible to obtain a degree now have the opportunity to do so without the hassle of moving to another city or state. To ensure that those individuals get a quality learning experience, it is important to ensure that the instructors or professors are adequately trained to create an online course. This study aims to get an understanding of how Behavior Skills Training and the Checklist Teaching Method, both proven to be effective methods of training in previous studies, can aid in providing the necessary training for an individual to create an effective online course with college students. Unfortunately, many instructors and professors in higher education receive training after they are employed by the university. The significance of this study is that it may be beneficial to train individuals who are going into the field of education. The results of this study showed that the use of behavior skills training and the checklist method concurrently was effective in training individuals on how to create an effective online learning environment using the Canvas platform. Therefore, it was determined that this in-person and hands-on instructional method proved to be a great alternative to the current online method of Canvas training.
