The Fifth Evaluation Report: Strengthening STEM Education for Latinx Students at CSUB

California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB) continues administering its five-year grant, "Promoting Excellence in Graduate Education and Increasing Hispanic STEM Related Degree Completion," to strengthen the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program support for students of Latino origin and develop a Graduate School-Going culture across the campus. In the fifth year, the grant team has accomplished six tasks: (1) Purchasing supplies and equipment for lab-based STEM inquiries, (2) Supporting inclusive mentorship and education pathway projects for five Faculty Fellows, (3) Organizing the annual Grad Slam to showcase student research, (4) Attending more than two dozens of grad fairs in outreach efforts, (4) Offering nine graduate student workshops for student advising and mutual networking, (5) Sponsoring five faculty-student collaborative teams to conduct research in STEM fields, (6) Hosting 12 faculty seminars to strengthen graduate research culture across various subject domains. These accomplishments are aligned with the team commitment delineated in the original grant proposal. The positive findings are not only supported by extensive quantitative and qualitative evaluation outcomes under a well-established Process-Person-Context-Time (PPCT) model, but also corroborated by the national data across 252 Hispanic Serving Institutions with graduate student enrollment (gHSIs) from the Excelencia in Education.
