Leader In Me Program: Implementation Obstacles and How to Overcome Them
Monika Jacqueline Rivera
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, St. Thomas University
This in-depth study looks at how leadership helped and what problems there were when non-profit private schools in Eastern South Florida tried to use the Leader In Me (LIM) program. It looks into how school leaders help teachers and staff adopt LIM, deal with resistance, and make sure the program works. Five principals or assistant principals said that leadership support, removing barriers, giving teachers more power, and school culture and environment were all very important. Action teams, open communication, ongoing professional development, and teacher leadership groups were all important for the implementation to go well. Adding LIM to school created a mindset of working together, which improved community involvement, leadership, climate, and empowerment. Dealing with problems meant doing things the same way every time, figuring out why people were resisting, and making changes to structures based on feedback. Strategies included reaching a consensus, working together, developing staff leadership, and making focused interventions. Continuing to be successful needs training, mentorship, professional development, and growing as a leader. Regular evaluations, integration into daily practices, and recognition of accomplishments ensured long-term success and community responsiveness. This study gives school leaders useful advice on how to successfully apply the LIM program, focusing on personalized support, good communication, ongoing professional development, and regular evaluations.
