ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Fairleigh Dickinson University
Aligning higher education pathways with career readiness competencies is essential for equipping students with the necessary tools and skillsets needed to persist in the employment market and eventually succeed in their chosen career path (Jimenez, 2020). Therefore, this study utilized a mixed-method research approach to evaluate the students' perceptions and satisfaction with the design, delivery, and instruction of a professional development course at a postsecondary institution, specifically aimed at facilitating the students' transition from academia to the workforce. Examining the students' perceptions and satisfaction offered valuable insights into different aspects of the student experience, contributing to a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness of the course. This research initiative aimed to provide a holistic view encompassing various facets of students' perspectives and experiences. The primary goal of this study was to determine whether students perceived the course as beneficial for their employment search and professional growth. Additionally, the study explored whether there was a positive correlation linking students' perception and satisfaction to the effectiveness of career services-integrated curricula. This study was conducted at a small, career-focused postsecondary institution in the northeastern U.S. metropolitan area. In summary, this study emphasized the connection between higher education and career readiness. By highlighting the students' experiences and insights, this study provided valuable feedback to academia for enhancing the transition from classroom to workforce.
