Assessing Counseling Center Services Used by Black Students at Community Colleges
Ann-Marie Denton
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Regis College
Depression and anxiety disorders are common among college students. These disorders may impact a student from being successful in various aspects of their personal and professional life; the level of support one receives matters to success. Through this qualitative phenomenological study, I explored the level of mental health services marketed to students who identify as Black to determine the perceptions of mental health services offered at community colleges in the northeast region of the United States in meeting the needs of students during their college journey. Historically, Black students have underused counseling center services and resources, despite having access to counseling center services and resources. Results from this study contribute to furthering Black students' success at community colleges and support these students in seeking help with their mental health needs and to flourish to their capacity.
