Shannon M. Thibault
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Bay Path University
This action research study focuses on the graduate studies degree programs at The University, to identify master-level graduate student support services that are offered or should be offered to enhance the student experience and aid them in their degree completion. A survey was conducted with all currently enrolled master-level students at TU. Data received was presented and vetted by a student support committee comprised of faculty/staff from various graduate programs. Students reported a wide variety of experiences, which guided the research study to create an intervention that was then evaluated for future implementation. A focus group that included master-level graduate students currently enrolled at TU was convened to review data from the questionnaire. The focus group piloted a master-level student welcome orientation. The focus group reviewed the piloted support service and provided feedback on ease of use and support value, suggesting a plan for implementation. The recommendation plan for implementation was presented to the student services implementation team at the conclusion of this study. This action research study will contribute to master-level graduate student retention and positive student experience by identifying which support services master-level graduate student believe has the most significant impact on retention and should therefore be improved or offered. Ultimately, the study contributes to retention efforts, organizational goals, and awareness of student experiences.
