The Influence of Growth Mindset in Student Learning
Stephanie Desiree Goldsmith
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to view the influence that implementing growth mindset could have on a private preparatory school and the students' academic achievements. Qualitative methodology was used to investigate the influence of growth mindset could have on student learning in a private preparatory school. The qualitative design used for this study was a single case study. This allowed the research to look into the "why" and "how" questions. A theoretical framework was used as the structure and support. The main purpose of this study was to produce an understanding and insight in order to inform and gain knowledge on the influence of growth mindset in a classroom setting. During this qualitative case study, the participants were observed in their classroom setting. Each participant had a diverse background in teaching. The participants were of different ages, different races, and a variety of ranges in their teaching experiences. The data was collected from classroom observations, lesson plans, and one-on-one interviews with the teachers and administrators. The teachers were grouped into three categories between K-2nd grade, 3rd-5th grade, and 6th-8th grade. This foundation of implementing growth mindset could help the students work through their challenges and mistakes instead of giving up so quickly.
