A Qualitative Case Study: The Creation of a Professional Learning Model and Questionnaire to Foster Culturally Competent Practices in Teachers of English Language Learners
Linda Marie Fairchild
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
The purpose of this qualitative case study was two-fold: to determine if professional learning that blends cultural competencies and second language acquisitions helped teachers in helping ELL students achieve academic success and the development of the Second Language Acquisition and Cultural Competency Practices Questionnaire. Subjects were teachers in a rural school district with ELL students and attended a two-day professional learning session led by the researcher. Results indicated that participants in this study thought professional learning that blended second language and cultural competencies was effective in helping them teach English language learners.
