Today's nursing students need to be knowledgeable, engage in superior nursing skills, and learn the art of patient communication to give patients the best care. This qualitative case study addresses nursing students, their exercises that influence communication skills in the simulation laboratory, nursing and communication educators and the results of teaching that may have contributed to the nursing student's learning of communication skills. The challenges that the nursing student faces is applying information taught in theory to practical exercises in clinicals. According to some researchers a gap exists between theory and practice application for nursing students. Nursing students are expected to remember what they were taught in theory and make sense of the information to apply those skills in the clinical setting. Most communication training takes place in the lecture-based setting with minimal training in the clinical area. This study provides insight into nursing students' lived experiences, their communication skills, and nursing educators' teaching effectiveness. Also, the research is deficient in identifying and evaluating the methods used in teaching and learning communication skills. Nursing students should be encouraged to ask questions for clarity and understanding in preparing for future advance nursing roles.
