The Influence of Women in Student Affairs on the Socially Responsible Leadership Development of Undergraduate Men

This study examined the research question, does having a woman in student affairs as a mentor correlate to higher socially responsible leadership scores of undergraduate men? Overall, there were no statistically significant differences between leadership construct scores on measures of socially responsible leadership for undergraduate men who indicated their most significant mentor was a woman in student affairs compared to men who indicated their most significant mentor was someone other than a woman in student affairs--except for the Consciousness of Self construct, where men who had a woman in student affairs for their most significant mentor scored slightly lower than their peers with different most significant mentor. Further analyses were conducted considering participants' grade level, age, race, sexual orientation, level of the student's parent's formal education, the mentor's race, gender, and role of mentor.
