This sponsored study establishes quantitative data about the training effectiveness of a leadership education program in a southern Indiana community college by comparing the pre-intervention and post-intervention MLQ-5X test scores of 11 students participating in a leadership education program and then comparing the students' performance during 45 mock interviews: 28 interviews from the experimental group (students participating in a leadership education program on three campuses of a southern Indiana community college), and 17 interviews from the control group (students not participating in a leadership education program on three campuses of a southern Indiana community college). The research found a statistically significant mean increase in the post-intervention MLQ-5X scores for Charisma and Intellectual Stimulation; however, only 1 of the 12 factors for mock interview performance, Punctuality, showed a statistically significant between the experimental and control groups. The study concludes with six recommendations to improve leadership education outcomes, including revising the approach to recruiting, eliminate barriers to leadership education, create an applied leadership education capstone course, establishing objective measures for leadership education, establishing objective measures for interview performance, and tracking the long-term career outcomes for students.
