The U.S. Surgeon General defines determinants of health as "the range of personal, social, economic, and environmental factors that influence health status" (Donatelle, 2019). These determinants encompass various health goals but despite them, health-related issues persist across the population, indicating a need for comprehensive approaches to health and wellness. While physical activity and nutrition are commonly associated with health, other factors such as emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, and spiritual also significantly impact overall well-being. This concept of wellness, interweaving physical, mental, and spiritual maintenance, is integral to health discourse. Preventive strategies play a crucial role in maintaining health, particularly through early childhood health and wellness education. Successful programs targeting nutrition, physical activity, and mental well-being in schools have shown positive outcomes, emphasizing the importance of education in cultivating healthy habits from a young age. This study examined the effectiveness of a holistic health education program for elementary-aged children, focusing on the six dimensions of wellness. Key findings indicated that students who participated in a guided, in-class health program gained more health and wellness knowledge compared to their counterparts, there were no significant differences in healthy behavior motivation after completing the in-class health program among the students, and overall, students enjoyed participating in and learning through the health and wellness program. The findings contribute to understanding the impact of early childhood health education to promote lifelong wellness practices.
