The Relationship between Principal Leadership Styles and Teacher Job Satisfaction
Bonita Cooper Green
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this quantitative predictive correlation research is to determine if and to what extent perceived principal leadership styles predict teacher job satisfaction for K-12 educators in an education association in a northeastern rural school district in North Carolina. Herzberg's Motivation-Hygiene and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Theories informed the variables and instruments and provided the theoretical framework for this quantitative study. There were three research questions for the proposed study RQ1: To what extent does perceived transformational leadership predict teacher job satisfaction in an educator association; RQ2: To what extent does perceived transactional leadership predict teacher job satisfaction in an educator association; and RQ3: To what extent does perceived Laissez-faire leadership predict teacher job satisfaction in an educator association. The surveys were completed by 101 members with 77 valid surveys identified through a Survey Monkey (76%) and analyzed by regression. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the sample demographic data and the data on the three variables. Next, a test for univariate outliers to determine if any cases may not statistically be part of the sample collected, a test the assumptions of normality and homoscedasticity. Finally, inferential statistics were used for testing linear regression for the three hypotheses. The findings of the research determined that principal leadership style is a predictor for teacher job satisfaction.
