Theology, Technology, and Digital Culture: Preparing Future Ministers to Think Theologically about the Impact of Digital Technology
Chad A. Ragsdale
ProQuest LLC, D.Min. Dissertation, Biola University
This project engages in the cultural exegesis of digital technology for the benefit of training men and women for Christian service in a world shaped by the presence of technologies like smart phones and social media. The author developed a course dedicated to teaching students at an undergraduate Bible college to apply the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians and "take every thought captive" in regards to digital technology. Using insights from Scripture, history, and philosophy, students were led to develop and articulate a theology of technology. Additionally, this project is interested in the application of this theology. In this course, the researcher challenged the students to consider the effects of digital technology on both personal discipleship and ecclesial ministry and to develop virtues and disciplines in response.
