Factors That Influence and Impact the Post-Secondary Success of High School Graduates with Visual Impairments
Michelle E. Cormier
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
For high school graduates with visual impairments, the options for post-secondary pursuits is very similar to that of the general high school graduate population. However, after high school, they are not finding the same success as their sighted peers, with far fewer graduates completing degrees in higher education or securing gainful employment. The purpose of this qualitative research study was to gather information not only from high school graduates with visual impairments, but also from teachers for the visually impaired, employers/business owners, college/university disability services offices, and other involved stakeholders about what knowledge and skills they observed to have contributed to or impacted the post-secondary success of adults with visual impairments.
