Parent Involvement at Two Urban Elementary Schools
ProQuest LLC, D.Ed. Dissertation, Indiana Wesleyan University
This research was intended to find the reasons for limited parent involvement at two different Elementary schools within the same district in the Mid-Atlantic region. Parent involvement is known to be a valuable means to bridge any achievement gaps, motivating students to be more successful. If the main reasons for limited participation by parents are uncovered, the hope is to find solutions to implement them. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students have fallen behind the expected standards. Parents also have different priorities, consistently taking on more financial responsibilities for their families. This study found that the topic of parent involvement has several reasons such as socioeconomic and scheduling that limit parents' opportunities to participate. Teachers and parents also may have different ideas of what parent involvement is, with teachers wanting more of a time commitment. Parent involvement can have a positive effect on student success, which is what all educational leaders want to achieve.
