This qualitative study aimed to identify and name leadership mindsets of Catholic school principals that promoted and fostered equitable school opportunities for all students, especially schools serving diverse student populations. This study further sought to understand the principal's role as a faith leader and its influence on the principal's enactment of an equity mindset within the school community. The research was conducted through an online survey consisting of selected and open-ended free responses that were analyzed through a coding process to identify common themes and patterns. This study took place in a Midwest archdiocese with Catholic schools supported by an outside funding organization. The data analysis revealed a strong reliance on faith to address issues of equity within their respective schools and the principal's sense of responsibility to provide a positive and successful learning environment for students. However, the data also revealed barriers and challenges for principals to engage in actions that would further improve school conditions and help students reach their greatest potential. Because of a lack of resources, teacher shortages, and other challenges, the principals could not always provide an equitable learning environment and needed more support in the way of funding, professional development, and systemwide support from the archdiocese. The principals embodied an equity mindset, influenced by their faith leader role. These leaders could not act because of external and internal barriers to equity.
