The Roles and Responsibilities, Leadership Styles, and Professional Identity of School Counselors in Louisiana

The effect of school counselor leadership on student and school success merits attention in the realm of educational and school counselor literature. This study investigated the actual and preferred roles of school counselors in the state of Louisiana, the relationship of how school type and grade level impacted counselor roles and responsibilities, and the identification of school counselor leadership styles and their professional identity. This study was comprised of seven research questions and consisted of a mixed method convergent parallel triangulation design. Data was collected through a survey created by the researcher entitled, The Louisiana School Counselor Leadership Survey (LSCLS). The results of the study revealed some significant relationships among the study's elements. Educational inferences and recommendations for future research are provided at the conclusion of the study.
