ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Indiana State University
The purpose of this quantitative research study was to determine if there were differences in perception among K-12 Indiana public school principals regarding the emotional intelligence of superintendents, specifically, the domains of self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. The independent variables included building type, location type, and years of experience. This study surveyed all traditional public school and charter school principals in Indiana regarding 30 statements. Three different one-way ANOVA tests were run to find statistical differences on each null hypothesis. The null was retained in building type and location type. The null was rejected in years of experience. A simultaneous multiple regression was conducted to determine if the five emotional intelligences had an impact on job satisfaction. The null was rejected. Of the five domains, four proved to have an impact on job satisfaction. Specifically, the emotional intelligence domains of social skills, empathy, self-regulation, and motivation had an impact on principals' job satisfaction.
