Nina Veronica Medyk
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, University of Florida
The purpose of this study was to explore the outcomes of a group Theraplay® intervention among middle and high school students in a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP). Theraplay® is a play-based, attachment-informed therapeutic approach designed to help individuals form attachments and trusting relationships with others. Transcendental phenomenology was utilized to explore the lived experiences (N=12) of two teachers and ten students participating in the Theraplay groups. Key findings from the study indicated that the Theraplay groups had a positive impact on classroom climate, interpersonal skills, increased collaboration, were uplifting, and opened the hearts and minds of students and teachers. Other findings, as well as implications for practice and research, were explored. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
