Statement of Purpose and Method of Study: The purpose of this study is to describe the perspectives, processes, and experiences identified during the implementation of the SIG Transformation Model in a rural school district in Mississippi. The Transformation Model is one of the four approved prescriptive models identified by the federal government intended to improve student outcomes in some of the nation's lowest-performing schools. This descriptive case study highlights the perceptions, processes, and experiences of district-level personnel, principals, teachers, school improvement coaches, and state-level personnel during the implementation of the SIG Transformation Model in three schools in a rural school district in Mississippi. Findings and Conclusions: This study indicates the significance of human capital and leadership engagement in professional development when implementing the model. The study also indicates the need for flexibility in grant implementation and greater support from the state education agency.
