Job Productivity Following Jury Service for Technical and Trade College Educators: A Quantitative Correlational Study

ProQuest LLC, D.B.A. Dissertation, University of Phoenix
This study examined the relationship between jury service length and job productivity and jury case type and job productivity. The general population was educators in technical and trade colleges. A correlation design was used. The sample size of 109 exceeded the minimum number of 102 indicated by the G*Power analysis. Data collection occurred over 4 weeks in 2021. A Spearman's correlation coefficient of r[subscript s] = -0.12 was determined for Research Question 1, examining variables of jury service length and job productivity. Research Question 2 examined jury case type and productivity and resulted in a Spearman's correlation coefficient of r[subscript s] = 0.12. Accordingly, both hypotheses were accepted that there was no statistically significant relationship between the variables. Applying Cohen's standard showed a small association for both research questions. The research study resulted in two major recommendations. First, human resources and business leaders should implement employee assistance programs to aid employees with the effects of juror-related stress. Second, a formal self-efficacy training program should be deployed. This study provides a starting point to examine the impact of longer jury trials (more than 10 days) on stress levels, which would benefit both jurors and employers.
