The purpose of this qualitative descriptive study was to examine how college undergraduates perceive the effectiveness of internships that lead to career aspirations in their major. The theoretical foundation was Super and Hall's career exploration stages of the working life model. The sample was college undergraduates from a public urban university in North Carolina. A qualitative descriptive design was used. Data sources included interviews and a focus group. There was one research question which asked how do undergraduates perceive the effectiveness of internships that lead to career aspirations in their major. Five themes and one sub-theme surfaced that involved: internships assisting with career aspirations are perceived effective, internships perceived effective when giving opportunities to work in major field, positive characteristics related to internship effectiveness, skills set for internships, perceived effectiveness of internship if aligned with career aspiration, internships perceived as effective and valuable. These themes answered the research question related to internship effectiveness as perceived by college undergraduates. The researcher found that undergraduates perceive the internships as helpful and positive, provide undergraduates with experience in their major and potential to enhance career services in a college setting.
