Does Distributed Leadership Lead to Greater Teacher Job Satisfaction? An Examination of the Effects of Distributed Leadership on Secondary Teachers Job Satisfaction in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia

The purpose of this study was to focus on teacher job satisfaction in Saudi Arabia. This quantitative study aimed to identify the relationship between teachers' perceptions of distributed leadership and job satisfaction in public secondary schools in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. It additionally examined if there is a difference between female and male teachers in job satisfaction. Participants were teachers working in public secondary schools in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. Teachers who responded to the survey were 383 (68.7% female, 31.3 male). A multiple linear regression model was applied to find the relationships between variables. Results proposed a significant relationship between distributed leadership and teachers' job satisfaction. Also, there was a positive relationship between providing the needed supplies and teachers' job satisfaction. Including the (teachers, students, schools) characteristics individually in the regression model showed a negative relationship between general job satisfaction and workload and teachers' total experience. Also, it showed a negative relationship between the number of students with behavior issues and teachers' perceptions about teaching. Then, a t-test was applied to examine the difference between male and female teachers in job satisfaction. Results showed that there was a negligible difference between males and females in their satisfaction with teaching. Females, as compared to males, had statistically significantly higher scores on perceptions about teaching.
