Integrating Sustainable Development in Occupational Therapy Curricula: A Three Article Dissertation

This dissertation focused on sustainable development (SD), curricular development, and practices in the health professions, specifically in occupational therapy practice. It is divided into five chapters. The first chapter provides background information, the second chapter uses the [C]STAUNCH tool to analyze the degree of sustainable development content in a newly developed occupational therapy doctoral curricula, the third chapter presents a scoping review exploring the adaption process and outcomes of SD programs in the health professions, the fourth chapter surveys SD practices in occupational therapy programs, and the fifth chapter provides the conclusions and also discusses limitations and implications for future research. Education for sustainable development in all the health professions, particularly in occupational therapy, faces a great responsibility to help educate occupational therapists to contribute to identifying critical pathways that break patterns of inequalities and deprivations for access and inclusion of healthcare services.
