Risk Factors for Criminal Justice Involvement of Students Who Have an Individualized Education Plan
Corie D. Rivera
ProQuest LLC, Psy.D. Dissertation, Alliant International University
Students who have a disability are at risk for criminal justice involvement. Such involvement can lead to negative outcomes during their elementary, middle, and high school years. Furthermore, the negative consequences associated with criminal justice involvement for students with disabilities can extend well into adulthood. The aim of this extended literature review was to understand the factors that place a student with disability at risk of becoming involved in the criminal justice system. The extended literature review will also highlight factors that put students at higher risk for becoming involved in the system. This literature review also provides the background for the development of a syllabus created for an undergraduate course, "Classroom Management Through an Equity Lens." In addition, suggestions for school-based clinicians and teacher education faculty members will be provided.
