The Effect of Various Afterschool Activities on Student Behavior, Student Achievement and Student Attendance

This study utilized a pretest posttest design to examine the impact afterschool activities had on students in middle school. Survey and focus group data were used to access participants' behavior, achievement and attendance in while participating in afterschool programs. Findings from the study concluded that student's participation in afterschool programs improved self-esteem, developed leadership skills, and ability to work as a team. Participants in this study consisted on 29 eighth grade male students 10 teachers and parents. Quantitative and qualitative pre and post data were collected, analyzed, and compared. Findings concluded, there was a positive impact on student achievement in afterschool programs. The results of this study revealed that afterschool participation can foster social-emotional growth in students.
