Improving Pre-K Readiness and Writing

This study provided handwriting and literacy readiness for students in Pre-K using Get Set for School Readiness & Writing curriculum. Children who struggle with handwriting and literacy skills during the early childhood development years may also struggle with lower academic attainment throughout their school career (Grindle et al., 2017). Many schools do not have a mandatory formal handwriting program that provides structure and follows a developmental progression for skill acquisition causing students to fall behind negatively impacting the students' academic success and self-esteem (Nye & Sood, 2018). The study illuminated the need for Pre-K programs to implement a handwriting and readiness curriculum to improve kindergarten readiness.
