ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Concordia University Chicago
It was currently unknown how Christian college and university administrators perceived how online education of student enrollment and revenue was associated with the adoption, implementation, and operation of higher education online courses. The problem being was that because Christian colleges and universities were being called to reimagine their approach to education to maintain their unique position as educational providers, they were required to offer online education courses to keep up with the growing demand from students. Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative case study was to explore the perceptions of Christian college and university administrators to better understand the influences of online education on student enrollment and revenue and how they were associated with the adoption, implementation, and operation of higher education online courses. The researcher collected data via three data collection methods: (1) semi-structured interviews: (2) a focus group: and (3) an open-ended questionnaire. The results of this study four main themes emerged from the dataset: (1) online education increases enrollment due to time, convenience, and price; (2) online education influences revenue; (3) technology acts as the main barrier toward online education; and (4) strategic planning is essential in overcoming barriers of online education. This study was significant because online education's role in the viability of Christian colleges and universities be clearly understood by senior-level administrators, educators, and other stakeholders. Leaders in higher education institutions may find results helpful in identifying underlying factors that support or interfere with increasing online education courses and programs.
