Student Affairs Practitioners Self-Efficacy and Professional Development as Predictors for Career Commitment
Braylon Junior
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
A correlational student was conducted to explore the relationships between student affairs professional self-efficacy, participation in professional development, and career commitment. For the quantitative portion, the researcher ran Pearson r correlations for self-efficacy scores, career commitment scores, and the number of professional development sessions participants attended. For the qualitative portion, the researcher conducted a content analysis of responses to six structured interview questions the researcher developed. The data analysis revealed that self-efficacy had a moderate relationship with career commitment and participation in professional development. These findings were only approaching significance. The analysis further revealed that participation and career commitment had a weak relationship, but the relationship was not significant. Further research is needed to predict self-efficacy in student affairs professionals. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
