Examining the Attitudes and Perceptions of Teachers Implementing Second Step
Gabbriele Foxx
ProQuest LLC, Ed.S. Dissertation, University of Nebraska at Omaha
Today's society has begun to focus on promoting positive student outcomes beyond academic proficiencies. In recent years, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) has gradually gained a positive reputation in the educational community which has led many schools to implement SEL programs. Though adopting an SEL program seems like the answer to promoting social-emotional competence for students, understanding implementation is just as critical. The purpose of this investigation is to assess the attitudes and perceptions of elementary school teachers, within a school district, implementing an SEL program called "Second Step." Findings indicated that teachers believe that SEL curriculum is a necessary component in students' education; however, they feel that they need more administrative support in implementation. Recommendations for future implementation are presented. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
