Shared Leadership and Organizational Capacity in a Title I School
Heather L. Palmer
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
Research suggests shared leadership as a leadership style that produces positive outcomes. Specifically, the use of shared leadership in the school setting can lead to positive outcomes. However, there is minimal research that examines, and links shared leadership to positive outcomes in a Title I school setting. This research study examined the relationship between shared leadership and organizational outcomes. The research question asked, to what degree do workplace interactions at a school site correlate to the practice of shared leadership? Through a quantitative methodology with a linear regression research design, archival data were collected. The University of Oklahoma School Health and Climate Survey for Tulsa Public Schools (TPS) was used to measure the variables of shared leadership and workplace interactions. The survey respondents consisted of 507 certified teachers who work in Title I elementary schools in the TPS district. Findings suggest there is a significant relationship between shared leadership and workplace interactions in a Title I school. The topic was chosen as a principal's responsibilities increase, and the population of students served in Title I schools also increases. Subsequently, principal leadership is being considered as the answer to improved outcomes. Therefore, this study focused on shared leadership as a positive influence on organizational outcomes in a Title I school. Keywords: Shared leadership, Title I school, organizational outcomes, distributed leadership, leadership activities, workplace interactions, teacher efficacy, principal, leadership.
