A Transcendental Phenomenological Study of the Lived Experiences Impacting the Career Development of Black Women in Rehabilitation Counselor Education

In this transcendental phenomenological study, the researcher highlights the lived experiences of Black women in rehabilitation counselor education. The purpose of this study was to provide detailed descriptions of the lived experiences impacting the career development of Black women in rehabilitation counseling education, to provide a more detailed understanding of ways to support, retain, and recruit Black women in rehabilitation counseling education, and to shift the focus and shed light on positive experiences promoting career decisions towards rehabilitation counselor education. This study utilized the Social Cognitive Career Theory, Womanist Identity Development Model, and Black Feminist Theory as its theoretical framework. The findings from this study produced meaning units, or themes, confirming previous literature related to the career development of Black women and introducing new knowledge on how Black women make career decisions towards rehabilitation counselor education.
