ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trevecca Nazarene University
The purpose of this qualitative study was to investigate the factors that influenced the career decisions of school leaders who chose to serve as international missionaries. Specifically, the study focused around what led the school administrators to accept a position at a school on the mission field and why they decided to remain or to leave. The results indicated that a calling from the Lord is what prompts school leaders to move into overseas mission work. Once on the field, the stress these missionary school administrators experience tempts them to leave, but affirmation of their calling allows them to remain. Family considerations also play an important role in their decisions. The most common factor that leads a school leader to leave the mission field is disappointing experiences with those in leadership over them.
