Stanford B. Oglesby III
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northern Illinois University
The Research Apprentice Program is a pre-college, summer enrichment program that seeks to recruit underrepresented students into the field of agriculture and the College of ACES at the University of Illinois. The program has been in operation for more than thirty years and has reported many successes. Among these successes are a recruitment rate of 55% and a graduation rate of 96%. This program has yet to be formally evaluated. This study was conducted to provide a formative evaluation of the program to assess if the intended outcomes of the administrative participants are consistent with the lived experiences of the student participants. This evaluation was conducted using the CIPP model of evaluation. The findings indicate that the intentions of the administrative participants to provide academic enrichment, discipline content introduction, and recruitment are consistent with the lived experiences of the student participants.
