Yontrea Engram
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, University of West Georgia
This quantitative study sought to investigate school administrators' knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (2004) across three geographical locales: rural, suburban, and urban/city. Statistical analyses were conducted to determine the overall extent of school administrators' knowledge of the IDEIA (2004) in addition to the existence of a significant relationship between school administrators' knowledge of the IDEIA (2004) and their respective locale. The "Knowledge Survey of the IDEIA (2004)" was administered to school administrators of rural, suburban, and urban/city locales in one Southeastern state. The results of the study indicated that while suburban and urban/city school administrators possess only an Average knowledge of the IDEIA (2004), rural school leaders possess an Above Average knowledge of the IDEIA (2004) as compared to their colleagues. Specifically, rural school administrators demonstrated greater knowledge of the nondiscriminatory evaluation, least restrictive environment, and procedural safeguards principles of the IDEIA (2004), resulting in a greater overall adherence to the Emerging Disability Policy Framework.
