Danielle E. Weisman Jones
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Marymount University
The purpose of this study was to identify the characteristics of effective teacher mentorship that positively impact teacher experience and practice, to better understand how to mentor novice teacher mentees, and to learn how to support veteran teachers through mentorship by exploring teacher mentorship programs and teacher experience. The researcher collected quantitative and qualitative data via an electronic survey and analyzed it to yield the following themes: (1) building relationships; (2) personal growth; (3) retention and job satisfaction; and (4) professional growth. Using literature on teacher attrition rates and data collected the researcher created a model for effective mentorship by drawing on the themes discovered. Both theoretical and practical implications from this study were discussed, along with recommendations for further research.
