An Evaluation of the Efficacy and Social Validity of Fluency Building to Train Educators in Behavioral Terminology
Amanda K. Cash
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology
Leaders in education need to identify ways to better train and support professionals so that they do not leave the field (Garcia & Weiss, 2020). Using behavioral education practices, such as precision teaching and Say All Fast Minute Every Day Shuffled (SAFMEDS), promotes skill development and generative learning (Johnson, 2021). Training educators using these strategies may strengthen their learning and provide them with effective educational strategies to use with their students. In this study, building teacher knowledge of behavior planning terms to fluency using SAFMEDS led to retention and stability of skills. Participants also completed probes for generalization and social validity throughout the study, and two participants completed the student as accountability partners as an additional intervention component to try to improve likability of the package. The results of the study add to literature on the efficacy of SAFMEDS and extend its use to school-based professionals for staff training. Data on social validity and accountability partners are assessed and discussed. Suggestions for future research are provided and could be valuable to behavior analysts, teacher educators, and educational leaders.
