Solo Para Adelante: The Experience of Familial Cultural Support of Hispanic DACA Students in College
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, California State University, Bakersfield
The aim of this dissertation is to understand the impact of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) students have while attending higher education. In 2012, President Barack Obama signed DACA that allowed eligible undocumented students residing in any of the 50 states the ability to qualify for in-state tuition at public institutions. Previous research has demonstrated the impact of law negatively affecting unauthorized youth because they are denied entry to the labor force and applying to college federal grants. Those who qualify under DACA will receive protection from deportation and a work permit. This study attempts to highlight the voices of seven Latinx college students under DACA. This dissertation seeks how DACA impacts them in educational opportunities, parental support, and culture adaptation.
