This quantitative, correlational study investigated the predictive relationship between servant leadership characteristics of Servant TRIO SSS advisors and first-generation students' college adjustment and semester persistence. A total of 310 first-generation students in TRIO SSS programs within the United States participated in the study. Pearson's correlations and simple linear regression analysis were used to examine the predictive relations between TRIO SSS advisors and first-generation students. The linear regression model indicated SL characteristics as an overall significant predictor of first-generation students' adjustment to college (t = 16.9, p <0.001) and not a significant predictor of SL characteristics and first-generation students' intent to persist to the next semester (t = 0.302, p = 0.763). Results from the study confirm that servant leadership characteristics of higher education institutions' non-faculty or non-administrative employees are likely to impact first-generation college success positively. These findings contribute to the literature and suggest areas for future studies. [The dissertation citations contained here are published with the permission of ProQuest LLC.
