ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Grand Canyon University
The purpose of this qualitative single case study was to explore how a program of full-time religious secondary teachers and administrators adjacent to secondary school's experience, understand, and engage in distributive leadership practices for improving educational outcomes in the Western US. The conceptual framework that guided this study is a utilized distributive leadership practices from Harris and Hulpia. The research questions included how does a program of full-time religious teachers and administrators, adjacent to secondary schools, perceive and describe their understanding of distributive leadership prior to engaging in it, develop their understanding of distributive leadership practices, and how has distributive leadership helped to improve educational outcomes in students. The sample included 20 full-time religious teachers and administrators in secondary schools. The researcher recruited participants utilizing four sources of data. The data was analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-step thematic analysis using an inductive approach. Research findings included 9 themes encompassing previous style was top-down, hierarchical, collaboration, experience with distributive leadership among administrators, proper tools, training meetings, technological support for teachers, unified in-service meetings, creating an environment, higher expectations and vision, and building qualified teachers. The future implication is to develop an appropriate pattern and instructional materials to support a distributive leadership model effectively. Future research should explore how professional development training can develop existing leadership using a distributive leadership design.
