Campus Perspectives from College Students with Physical Disabilities: A Phenomenological Case Study
Valerie Scott-Dixon
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Regent University
This study examined how Christian higher education institutions support students with physical disabilities (SWPD) and the impact on these students' lived experience and asked, Do colleges support the physical, spiritual, and intellectual (tripartite being) of students with physical disabilities? This phenomenological qualitative case study aimed to describe the "human experience" (Creswell & Creswell, 2018, p. 75) of SWPDs on campus, namely "what they experienced, and how they experienced it" (Creswell & Creswell, 2018, p.75). The case study is "instrumental" (Creswell, 2005, p. 439) as it highlighted the issues or concerns of SWPDs. The phenomenon arose in how SWPDs experienced barriers on campus, and it was explored through the constructs of Christian worldview principles. The study's findings will add to the literature as it relates to serving students on campus with physical disabilities.
