Environmental health literacy (EHL) is a relatively new discipline and is gaining importance as the environmental justice movement is embraced in the United States through state and federal government programs. With the expansion of EHL programs throughout the country, and with more states incorporating EHL education into the K-12 curriculum, research is necessary to determine if these education programs correlate with adults' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to EHL topics in clean air, clean water, and general environmental health. This study used a validated EHL survey to measure knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to EHL topics in adult undergraduate students at Wilmington University. These quantitative data were analyzed using Pearson's chi-square analyses and a paired t-test to determine if correlations existed. The results suggested that participation in EHL programs in K-12 school does correlate in some areas to enhanced environmental knowledge, pro-environmental attitudes, and pro-environmental behaviors in adults, but more research is necessary to inform the creation and implementation of EHL prevention programs.
