A Phenomenological Exploration of Latina Doctoral Supervisors
Alexia DeLeon
ProQuest LLC, Ph.D. Dissertation, Idaho State University
Supervision is an integral part of training counseling students and doctoral students are responsible for supervising masters level counseling students in many counselor education programs. Due to Latinas entering the mental health professions at higher rates, counselor education programs must continue working to provide culturally responsive training and support for Latina doctoral students and their unique learning needs. This study utilizes van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenology to explore the lived experiences of three Latina doctoral supervisors. Many themes and subthemes emerged within the study and limitations, as well as future research and implications for the counselor education profession, are discussed.
